“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.”
Beyond the farm
Community is based on a balance of rights and responsibilities. Globalisation has been good at enforcing perceived 'rights' but has neglected responsibilities. One result has been that as consumers and communities we have been so distanced from the products that we consume we are unable to take responsibility for our choices. We allow our customers to become directly responsible for the food they choose to consume. We also encourage them to think about their wider responsibilities for food, energy and waste.
We also have strong charitable links to the Oxford homeless centre and encourage our customers to make a donation whilst placing their orders. This approach relies on local relationships, with our customers, our suppliers, our volunteers and the local community in general. We are guided in this regard by the saying of the prophet Muhammad that "your religion is evidenced by the nature of your social interactions".
An alternative economy
We hope to contribute to the development of an alternative economy, where nature is valued, produce is reared with respect, responsibility is taken for our energy use, our waste and our buildings. We welcome community involvement and we are open to suggestions for events and activities.
It is only by taking responsibility and caring our environment and our communities together, that we can hope to make a positive change.
